Don’t let another summer go by where you make excuses to relax, perpetually, rather than utilizing the downtime to make the rest of your year, and future years, more productive and less stressful. Even small changes can make a big difference – but you have to put in the effort.
It’s very easy to fall back into the accounting seasonal cycle: stress and complain about how terrible busy season is, and how you can’t do this anymore, followed by relief and repeat afterwards. We continue to tell ourselves “one more year” but then do nothing to change our future outcome. Rather than letting the summer lull overcome you, take the time to take advantage of the availability, and start investing in yourself so you have a brighter future. That can be learning a new skill, reorganizing, doing planning work, or just working on personal development. Remember, if you want to truly evolve into the professional you want to be, you have to start today.
